Bacon Lard Tub 200g – Smoked Bacon Spread for Everyday Use

Smoked bacon, crisp cracklings, onion and garlic on a base of pork fat. That is the whole idea behind this smoked bacon lard, and it has not changed in decades. Open the bacon lard 200g tub and it is ready to use: no preparation, no waiting.

Spread it cold on fresh bread, or warm it briefly and it turns into okrasa, the poured-over dressing that Polish kitchens have always used on dumplings and potatoes. The Polish name for the product is smalec, and Polish smalec has been made this way for a very long time.

Why the tub?

The 200g bacon fat tub is the practical format in the range. It is light and easy to handle, and it is the one to reach for when the bacon lard is leaving the kitchen: to work, away on a trip, or into a catering operation.

Every one of our formats is designed to make portioning easy, to cut waste and to store conveniently. Lard in solid form holds its structure and copes well with transport and storage, including under refrigeration, which is what makes a compact 200g portion sensible in the first place. It is enough for several meals and it will not sit around long enough to lose its aroma.

This is packaging made for using rather than for display. The ceramic pot is the one that goes on the table. The glass jar is the one that sits in the kitchen for everyday use at home. This lard tub is the one that goes with you.

Everyday ways to use it

Cold, on bread. The simplest and most popular way, and still the best one. A slice of fresh bread, a spoonful of smoked bacon spread, a pickled gherkin or a little raw onion alongside. Nothing else is needed. As an everyday bacon spread for toast it takes about ten seconds to put together.

Warm, as okrasa. One to two minutes in a pan over a low heat, until the cracklings and the onion release their aroma. Then spoon it over pierogi, pyzy (Polish potato dumplings), potatoes or cooked grains. A bain-marie works just as well. It needs no long cooking.

In cooked dishes. A spoonful goes into stuffings, into bigos (the Polish cabbage and meat stew) or into a bake. Try classic potato and cheese pierogi finished with bacon lard and cracklings, potato pancakes served with a spoonful of lard and onion, or scrambled eggs with a teaspoon of bacon lard and fresh chives

.

Outdoors and at the table. The handy 200g size works as a picnic spread and around the grill, and it suits a rural-style table served next to bread and pickled cucumbers. It is also the format that travels most easily to work, whether that means a packed lunch or a lunchbox spread for later in the day.

One honest note about cooking with bacon fat: this is a spread and an okrasa first. It is not a dedicated technological frying fat. If that is what you need, other products in our range, such as Refined Lard Fat Chef or beef dripping, will serve you better.

How to store lard in a tub

Lard storage is simple. Once opened, keep it in the fridge with the tub or jar tightly closed, which is what preserves the freshness and the aroma for longer. Exact storage instructions and the lard shelf life for your pack are given on the manufacturer’s label.

Because solid lard holds its structure and copes well with transport and chilled storage, a 200g portion stays in good condition through ordinary everyday handling.

Simple ingredients

Pork lard with bacon, made with 57% pork fat, plus smoked bacon, crisp cracklings, onion and garlic.

No preservatives. No thickeners. No artificial additives. No colourings. This is a natural bacon spread built from only what is needed to make a flavour that has been on Polish tables for generations.

It is a high energy product that keeps you full for a long time. Its profile includes monounsaturated fatty acids, among them oleic acid, which is also found in olive oil. Like any animal fat, it is best eaten in moderate amounts as part of a balanced diet.

This is general information about the product and its ingredients, not medical or nutritional advice.

Prefer glass? Other formats available

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the difference between the tub and the jar?

Only the packaging. The 200g bacon lard tub is light and practical, which makes it the easier one to take to work, on a trip or into a catering kitchen. The 200g bacon lard jar is the format for everyday use at home. The recipe, the weight and the flavour are identical.

Is this the same recipe as the jar?

Yes. Every format of Agro-Top bacon lard uses the same recipe: pork fat with smoked bacon, cracklings, onion and garlic, with no preservatives or artificial additives. The choice of pack is about the occasion, not the contents.

Does it need refrigerating, and how do I keep it once open?

Once opened, keep it in the fridge with the tub tightly closed. This preserves its freshness and aroma for longer. Detailed storage instructions and the use-by date are printed on the manufacturer’s label.

Can I cook with it, or is it just a spread?

It is primarily a spread and an okrasa. You can add it to stuffings, to bigos or to bakes, but it is not a technological frying fat. For frying, other Agro-Top products such as Refined Lard Fat Chef or beef dripping are the better choice.

How do I warm it up to serve as okrasa?

In a pan, for one to two minutes over a low heat, until the cracklings and onion release their aroma. You can also stand the dish in a bain-marie. It needs no long heating.

Is the 200g size suitable for picnics, grilling and catering?

Yes. The handy format works well on a rural-style table, at picnics and around the grill. For larger events, the ceramic pots and the 1kg bucket are the better fit.
